We Need Your Help To Make 100,000 Disaster Relief Kits

Sands_FlyerLettersize__print_Final

The American Red Cross has partnered with Clean the World and Sands Cares  to build 100,000 disaster relief hygiene kits and we need your help to hit our target.  The goal of the One Project is to show that every single person can make a positive impact on the life of another. Sometimes it is the creature comforts and necessities found in the hygiene kits that will give someone the strength to pull themselves up after a disaster.

Knowing that these kits were all made by hand lets them know there are people out there who care.  We would love to have you join us on September 20th or 21st at The Venetian hotel as we work together to create kits that will be used not only locally but will also be distributed across the country to people in need. Lets show the nation just how much Las Vegas cares! Come fill bags with soap, shampoo and lotion or connect your heart to theirs and spend the day writing inspirational cards. You never know when disaster will strike and it is the little things that can make the biggest difference. All it takes is two hours of your time,  chick here to register for your shift today!

Check out the video for more information.

Pillow Case Project: What Will You Bring With You When Disaster Strikes?

We can’t stop disasters (though we wish we could) but what we can do is be prepared when disaster strikes.  The Pillowcase Project is an initiative that was inspired by the ingenious children that began using their pillowcases to grab their most cherished belongings during Hurricane Katrina.

The goals of The Pillowcase Project are to:

1. Help students become familiar with the types of disasters that affect our local area such as earthquakes,  fires and floods.

2. Inform students and, by extension, families about the importance of creating a disaster preparedness kit and plan.

What we have found is that by teaching one child about disaster preparedness through the Pillowcase Project we are able to teach an entire family.

The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is a huge supporter of this national initiative and  we are currently offering free classes for elementary school children to teach them about Emergency Preparedness.

Just this week,  we worked with a local Las Vegas Valley Girl Scout camp to teach the scouts how they can help their families be prepared for and what to do during a disaster.

If your class or organization would like to have this fun and useful presentation delivered free of charge, please email Sean Ward at sean.ward@redcross.org. He would be delighted to arrange a presentation with your school or organization.

We love the Hard Rock, and we love steak. Here’s why…

35 Steaks + Martinis

We are delighted to help the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino  kick off Wine Week, a new charity initiative taking place at 35 Steaks + Martinis.  AND, we are thrilled that American Red Cross has been selected as a recipient for this unique event. They are dedicating the week of Sunday, July 15 through Thursday, July 19 to our staff, clients, donors and other community supporters.

An expansive selection of wines will be offered, giving guests a 25 percent discount. The Hard Rock will then donate an amount equivalent to the discount (25%) to ARC. For example: $100 bottle of wine; guests will receive the bottle for $75 (25%) and our organization will receive $25 from that sale (25% of the value).

The premier wines on the 35 Steaks + Martinis menu range in price and selection including Ferrari Carano, Jordan Russian River, Cakebread, Far Niente, Flowers Pinot, Chalk Hill, Newton Vineyards, Silver Oak, Rubicon, and Quintessa, allowing all wine enthusiasts to participate and enjoy.

We hope you take advantage of this great opportunity to have a great meal as well as helping the American Red Cross. We also ask that you help spread the word…the more buzz around Wine Week, the better!  To support, please mention Wine Week and American Red Cross.  Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 702.693.5000.
